Ballad (2020) for solo guitar is written in a freely atonal, expressionistic style with complex rhythms as well as some unusual effects, including tambour, sul tasto, and a tuning peg glissando at the end. The piece alternates between fast, emotionally taut sections and slow, tranquil moments which function as a release of tension.
